ARMADILLO ENTERPRISES was founded in 1995 as an ATA case manufacturer. As demand for ATA-style cases waned, Armadillo sought new brands to distribute. Company founder and CEO Elliott Rubinson attended the 1997 Musikmesse trade show in Frankfurt, Germany and met Hans Nordelius from Clavia DMI who introduced him to the Nord Lead synthesizer. Armadillo then became the distributor for Clavia DMI’s Nord & ddrum lines in the USA, adding them to the recently-acquired Dean Guitar company.
In 2004, the Armadillo developed NordUSA.com, a resource site for Nord users worldwide. As Armadillo's business expanded, the company moved from Clearwater, FL to facility five times the size in Tampa, FL (pictured at left). The next year, Armadillo purchased ddrum brand from Clavia DMI, and introduced a line of high-quality, low-cost acoustic drums. The following year, the Luna Guitar line was created, and in 2006 Armadillo greatly expanded its international sales division.
Today, Nord USA distributes to over 300 retail stores in the United States.

CLAVIA DIGITAL MUSIC IINSTRUMENTS was founded in 1983 as a manufacturer of digital drums. In 1995, hardware designer Hans Nordelius (pictured at left with software designer Magnus Kjellander) created the Nord Lead, the first virtual analog synthesizer. The next 4 years brought the Lead 2, the Nord Modular, and the Lead 3 advanced subtractive synth. In 2001, Clavia introduced the Nord Electro, a virtual electromechanical keyboard that featured vintage electric piano and organ sounds. Since, Clavia has produced more electromechanical instruments (Stage, C1 Organ) and synthesizers (Modular G2, Wave). All Clavia electronic products are assembled and thoroughly tested in Stockholm, Sweden by their production staff.
Now celerating their 25th Anniversary, Clavia is a rapidly growing company. Clavia’s mission is a simple one - to create the finest performance keyboard instruments available, by emulating vintage synthesizers, electric pianos, and organs in a manner that takes into account practical performance features, ergonomic design, stage-worthiness, maximum flexibility, and (most importantly) rich, professional sound. |
